Sister Malia Chooses Life of Service to God
Harvest
of Service—Others Will Follow is the theme of the 2008
Salvatorian Jubilee of religious profession. On
Saturday, June 28, Sister Malia Kao, SDS, will celebrate
her 60th Jubilee of religious profession as a Sister of
the Divine Savior. An 11 a.m. Mass of Thanksgiving will
be held for Sister Malia and other Jubilarians at Mother
of Good Counsel Parish, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A
reception for family and friends will follow at the
Divine Savior Holy Angels Quad, 4257 n. 100TH Street,
also in Milwaukee.
Sister Malia was born in Kwangtsch Fukien China. She
made her First Vows and Perpetual Vows in Milwaukee in
1948 and 1951 respectively. She cared for young children
at Blessed Tekakwitha Orphanage in Sisseton, South
Dakota. Then she served as a laboratory technician in
Milwaukee and in Portage. Sister Malia then ministered
in Ilan, China, as a religion teacher and kindergarten
supervisor. With the latter ministry, she managed the
care of 300 children. She returned to the United States
in 1996 accompanied by Sister Maureen Hopkins.
She lives on the St. Anne’s Salvatorian Campus where she
actively prays for the intentions of others through the
SDS Apostleship of Prayer. She also visits the St.
Anne’s residents. Sister Malia would encourage religious
life to others because it is a way to love and serve God
and other people with dignity and love. |
