SDS Postulant Sally Leyda and donor Mrs. Jane Williams share the microphone with Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki in an upcoming segment of Living Our Faith, on Relevant Radio 100.1 FM. Conversation will focus on “stay-cations” that incorporate faith and fun. Sally and Jane made a bus trip hosted by Sisters of the Divine Savior last fall to Our Lady of Good Help Shrine in the town of Champion near Green Bay. They’ll share impressions from their pilgrimage to the site of the first authenticated apparition of the Blessed Mother in the U.S., which took place back in 1859. Tune in to Living Our Faith:

Salvatorian Family Celebrates A Winner

Father Dave Bergner, SDS, Sue Kadrich from Emerald Isle, Lay Salvatorian Debbie Dahn-Chern, and Sister Patrice Colletti, SDS, were guests at a PRSA awards ceremony at Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel on May 15.

The Salvatorian Family video produced by Emerald Isle Marketing & PR of New Berlin, Wis. has been awarded a 2012 Paragon Award by the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Our Sisters, Priests and Brothers of the Society of the Divine Savior, and Lay Salvatorian men and women collaborated on the project under the direction of Emerald Isle.

SDS Shines a Light on Students’ Volunteer Service

We congratulate 41 seniors from Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) to whom we will bestow our Salvatorian Service Award on May 17. Students who go above and beyond graduation requirements for service are eligible for the award. Often, students are inspired to exceed those requirements as they experience profound personal growth in their outreach to people with extraordinary needs. We pray that they continue to be living examples of the goodness and kindness of Jesus as they take their next steps out into the world.

Nominations for our 2012 Woman of Faith Award will be accepted now through May 25. Sisters of the Divine Savior (Salvatorians) present the award annually to recognize a woman who demonstrates Gospel-inspired service that enriches the lives of people in need. The 2012 award recipient will be honored at a reception on September 20 at the U.S. Provincial headquarters in Milwaukee. Past Woman of Faith Award recipients include Kathie O’Brien Daily (posthumous, 2011), who worked at the grass-roots level to reach out to the poor and vulnerable; Vicki Thorn (2010), founder of Project Rachel, now a worldwide post-abortion healing ministry; and retired Justice Janine P. Geske (2009), for her initiatives in the restorative justice process.

Salvatorian Family Offers Alternative Spring Break

Students came to appreciate the value of one-on-one time with Hadley Terrace residents during spring break.

Thanks to Milwaukee Catholic Herald writer Ricardo Torres for shining a light on 11 Tennessee Tech University (TTU) students who opted for volunteer service over a traditional spring break at the beach. Students came together through TTU’s Newman center located at St. Thomas Aquinas, a Salvatorian parish in Cookeville, Tenn. Sister Pat Russell, SDS and Lay Salvatorians Marty and Clark Jameson worked with Sister Marion Etzel, SDS in Milwaukee to arrange service days at Hadley Terrace Senior Apartments and Repairers of the Breach. DSHA Lenten Project Benefits School in Tanzania

The Lenten project theme Educate Girls: Change the World motivated students at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School (DSHA) to raise nearly $4,000 for our Salvatorian Sisters’ school under construction in Tanzania. Students held a silent auction, and hosted and sold tickets for School House Rock–an open-mic night for local student bands. DSHA is a sponsored institution of the Sisters of the Divine Savior.

Salvatorian Family Video Wins Another Award

The Salvatorian Family Video released in 2011 has earned an award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). The video was a collaborative project of the Sisters of the Divine Savior, Priests and Brothers of the Society of the Divine Savior, and the Lay Salvatorians. The award will be presented at a banquet on May 15 at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee.

Alternative Spring Break Models Salvatorian Mission

Instead of donning swimsuits, applying suntan oil, and heading south for fun in the sun, 11 students from Tennessee Tech University came north in their work duds with lots of elbow grease for an alternative spring break. The students signed up for the weeklong project through St. Thomas Aquinas, a Salvatorian parish in Cookeville, Tenn. St. Thomas serves as Cookeville’s Newman Center, offering pastoral services to Catholic students enrolled in public colleges. Read more in the Herald-Citizen, Cookeville’s daily newspaper.

Bloomberg Businessweek recently recognized Milwaukee’s Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) as one of “America’s Best High Schools.” Named Parent’s Choice among private schools, DSHA is one of four sponsored institutions of the Sisters of the Divine Savior. Its college preparatory curriculum and diverse extra-curricular programs prepare young women for lifelong learning and service to family, Church, local community and the world.
