We observed the 179th anniversary of the birth of Therese von Wullenweber on February 19. Now known as Blessed Mary of the Apostles, she co-founded the Sisters’ branch of the Salvatorians with Father Francis Jordan on December 8, 1888, and guided the Community as it spread throughout the world. Mary of the Apostles was declared Blessed by Pope Paul VI in 1968, and her remains are preserved at our Congregation Motherhouse in Rome. In honor of her birthday we pray:

Blessed Mary of the Apostles,
obtain for us from God your strong, steadfast faith,
your firm hope, your unbounded charity towards all,
your heroic patience in suffering and affliction,
your burning zeal for the kingdom of God,
your worldwide, apostolic spirit.
Pray for us, Blessed Mary of the Apostles.

In the face of the Green Bay Packers’ 2012 playoffs loss, we reached out to the Packers to join our team of Salvatorians who work tirelessly to abolish modern-day slavery. In January, which is Salvatorian Human Trafficking Awareness Month, we sent letters to 20 influential members of the Packers organization and shared the reality of human trafficking. The letter noted that with every Super Bowl, there is a concurrent increase in sex trafficking of young women, teens, and children by some of the thousands who travel to the game. We asked Packers leaders to speak with their colleagues about how they can take a personal role in helping to change that reality.

We expect to see our Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl come 2013, and we pray that we’ll also see them take a public stance against this crime. As a member of the Region 9 Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), we also joined with more than 20 women’s religious congregations in Wisconsin to raise awareness of this issue with the Packers organization. Do you have a favorite Packer? Why not write to him and ask him to take a role?
Our international congregation of 1,200 Salvatorian Sisters minister in 29 countries on five continents, to make known the goodness and kindness of Jesus, Savior of the world. In solidarity with all those we serve, we walk alongside the elderly, the young, the hungry, the sick, and the imprisoned. In collaboration with our larger Salvatorian Family of Priests, Brothers and Lay men and women, we give ourselves to a worldwide mission in the spirit of our founders.
