Planned Giving

Your generous gift will carry the Gospel to places far beyond you. 2 Cor: 16-17

We are called to share our gifts.
Whether you think of yourself as rich or poor, or somewhere in between, your gift can make a difference.  Even a small amount can have a big impact over time.  You can become a partner in our mission through your generosity both now and in the future.  A bequest or planned gift through your estate is a powerful way to make a lasting impact on the lives of people you cherish and organizations you admire.

You can do both.
You might think you must choose between leaving a gift to your family or to your favorite charity.  In fact, you can leave money to your family and to your favorite charity.  And, some charitable gifts may actually save your family money by decreasing inheritance taxes.

It’s easy.
A simple directive in your will can bring vital support to our Sisters here in the U.S. or to our international mission work.  We encourage you to consider the Sisters of the Divine Savior in your planning and then choose how you would like to make a difference.

What will your legacy gift say about you?
If you are interested in making a gift of ongoing significance, here are some ideas:

  • Cash Gifts
Cash contributions are easy to make.  They can be designated for the immediate needs of the Sisters of the Divine Savior.
  • Gifts of Appreciated Property
Stocks, bonds, savings bonds or mutual funds that have increased in value since you bought them make excellent gifts. Giving the gift of stock can also have benefits for the giver, such as avoiding capital gains tax.
  • Prepare a Will
When you include a charitable bequest to the Sisters of the Divine Savior, it can be an outright gift of money or property, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after gifts to your family.

Bequest
A bequest in a will is a simple way for an individual to support a charity.  Bequests can take a number of forms, including:

    • Bequest of Specific Property, such as a house, artwork or jewelry.  Example: “I give, devise and bequeath (name item) in my estate to the Sisters of the Divine Savior, 4311 N. 100th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53222.”
    • Bequest of Specific Percentage of your estate. Example: “I give, devise and bequeath to the Sisters of the Divine Savior, 4311 N. 100th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53222, _____% of my estate.”
    • Bequest of Specific Amount is simply a gift and is usually written: “I give, devise and bequeath to the Sisters of the Divine Savior, 4311 N. 100th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53222, the sum of $_________.”  The gift can be unrestricted or designated for a specific purpose.
    • Residual Beneficiary receives the remainder (residue)  after all  expenses  (medical, funeral, taxes, etc.) are paid, and after any specific bequests are paid.  Example: “I give, devise and bequeath the remainder of my estate to the Sisters of the Divine Savior, 4311N. 100th Street, Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53222.”
  • Life Income Gifts
Gifts in the form of life income agreements can be made through Gift Annuity, Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust and Charitable Remainder Unitrust.  These agreements provide a life income in exchange for an irrevocable gift.
  • Tangible Personal Property
Antiques, works of art, jewelry or other collectibles make practical and meaningful gifts.
  • Real Estate
If real estate or other property has increased in value, it could be more advantageous to donate the property rather than keeping it and giving cash.
  • Savings Account or Brokerage Account
Naming Sisters of the Divine Savior as a beneficiary of a savings account and/or brokerage account is an easy option.
  • Life Insurance Policy
Naming Sisters of the Divine Savior as beneficiary of a life insurance policy you no longer need enables you to make a valuable gift to the Sisters.
  • Beneficiary of Retirement Plans
Naming Sisters of the Divine Savior as beneficiary of your tax-deferred Individual Retirement Account (IRA), 401(K),  403(B) retirement plan, or company-sponsored pension and profit sharing plan is simple to do. The Sisters will benefit from proceeds that remain at the time of your death.

A few reminders:
When deciding how to distribute your estate, be sure to consider family members or loved ones who might need your support.

A planned gift is best made with the counsel of your legal, tax and/or financial advisor.

Any gift may be unrestricted or designated for a specific purpose, such as Sisters’ formation or a particular mission.
