Catholic Sisters Week: A Sister I Admire

by Sister Jean Schafer, SDS

I first came to know Sister Jane Frances Barman when she served as the assistant novice directress during the time I was in the novitiate. Among her many duties she taught us how to cook. That alone would be a long story (maybe for another time!).

Later on, she was one of the house superiors at a retirement convent in St. Nazianz, WI. We would visit there and enjoy the fresh air, wonderful food, rural setting, and the love of our sisters. Sr. Jane always made it feel so homey!

But what I want to share about Sr. Jane today is her role in my life in 2024 and beyond (I hope). I am serving as the leader of our Province and Sr. Jane frequently assures me she is accompanying me in prayer and through moral support. She reminds me of this often by sending me her homemade cards. I am including a couple examples of her talent and creativity. These cards touch my heart and put a smile on my face. The messages inside the cards are even more creative, but those are between the two of us! Thank you, Sr. Jane, for inspiring me with your life!

This Catholic Sister Week, March 8-14, take time to express your gratitude for the living Salvatorian Sisters who have positively impacted your life. All messages, reflections, and photos will be shared with the Sisters and have the potential of being shared on our website & social media during Catholic Sisters Week.
