Catholic Sisters Week: Correspondence of Hope
by Mary Jo Verke, Lay Salvatorian (pictured above)
Before my husband and I went into the Peace Corps 25 years ago as retired people, we attended a retreat in Santa Cruz, California. It was there where I first met a Salvatorian Sister who wanted to correspond with me while I was out of the country. Soon after the retreat, she sent me this reading that kept me going for our two years in the Peace Corps and many years after:
“My dreams of life were laid: my journey mapped and made. The Lord was at my side to be my friend and guide. So I started out, but then the sky turned dark. The road grew steep and stark. I scarce could travel on.
I turned and cried:
“My Lord! Where’s the road; where’s the light?
Why this pain; why this night?”
The Lord turned and said:
“My child! Where’s the faith; where’s the trust?
Why this fear; why this fright?
I chose this way for you.
Just take my hand and travel on.'”
Let’s show the Salvatorian Sisters we call our friends, family, and mentors, our love and appreciation during Catholic Sisters Week.
This Catholic Sister Week, March 8-14, take time to express your gratitude for the living Salvatorian Sisters who have positively impacted your life. All messages, reflections, and photos will be shared with the Sisters and have the potential of being shared on our website & social media during Catholic Sisters Week.
