Catholic Sisters Week: Remembering Our Elder Sisters
by Gil and MaryElise Cervelli, retired employees of Salvatorian Sisters Residence
GIL: When I was first hired as a driver for Salvatorian Sisters Residence, my first task was to deliver Sister Alice Gindt, SDS to Luther Manor. As I boasted about my knowledge of Milwaukee streets to her, I immediately turned the wrong way onto 92nd Street. She smiled kindly without a word spoken. She taught me not to brag!
Sister Elaine Czarnezki, SDS showed remarkable compassion and kindness to me. I always enjoyed her company, especially when it included her homemade “fruitcake.”

MARYELISE: When I was the House Manager for Salvatorian Sisters Residence, I had the immense pleasure of knowing and loving the elder Salvatorian Sisters. We had countless fun times during holidays and birthdays, which included rides to see the Christmas lights and many, many laughs.
Following my interview for the House Manager position, I tried to wait patiently for a call from Sister Virginia Honish, SDS who would let me know if I got the job. Finally, the call came while I was walking out of a coffee shop. When I answered, I was both nervous and hopeful, but thankfully, my prayers and desire for this amazing job were realized. I felt like I was floating on the way home.
During our time working together, Sister Virginia and I formed a special bond, and to this day we remain in touch. She is a force of energy who doesn’t quit, and her love for her sisters is endless. She is a gem and an Energizer Bunny of love. My love and prayers to all the sisters at SSR.

Let’s show the Salvatorian Sisters we call our friends, family, and mentors, our love and appreciation during Catholic Sisters Week.
This Catholic Sister Week, March 8-14, take time to express your gratitude for the living Salvatorian Sisters who have positively impacted your life. All messages, reflections, and photos will be shared with the Sisters and have the potential of being shared on our website & social media during Catholic Sisters Week.
