Congratulations and Blessings, Patria
The Sisters of the Divine Savior welcomed Patria (Patty) Bermudez into our novitiate in a collaborative entrance ceremony with Simon Muema from the Society of the Divine Savior priests and brothers. Sr. Patty grew up on a small island in the Philippines in Alabat, Quezon. She is third youngest of nine siblings and was baptized on the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Sr. Patty says she learned to pray from her grandmother, with whom she prayed the rosary daily.
Sr. Patty graduated from college in Manila with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked in the Philippines for a short time before traveling to Saudi Arabia, where she worked for three years in newborn and pediatric nursing. Sr. Patty also had an opportunity to travel to Europe and the Holy Land before coming to the United States in 1996. She worked in Houston for nearly 17 years in hospital, home health care and assisted living settings.
Sr. Patty returned to the Philippines for a time, where she eventually connected with local Salvatorian Sisters there. She returned to the U.S. in spring 2014, and entered the Sisters of the Divine Savior as a candidate in Milwaukee in September last year. As a first-year novice, Sr. Patty will have opportunities to further experience Salvatorian life, learn about our charism and history, and grow in understanding of the vows of poverty, celibacy and obedience.
