Sr. Nelda Hernandez, SDS comes to the leadership team as Provincial Councilor after serving five years at St. John Vianney Parish in Brookfield, Wis., as associate director of Adult & Family Ministry and Human Concerns. She says responding to the call to religious life has been a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in listening for God’s voice.
Sr. Nelda professed perpetual vows eight years ago, after she had already raised a family, had a career, and owned a home. She says, “All in all, my life was fine and there was much for which to be grateful.” She describes her call to religious life as a “series,” first as a call to step away from her comfortable way of life; then, to see how she might grow through religious formation. Sr. Nelda brings to her new ministry her bachelor’s degree in music; bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English; Ph.D. coursework in counseling and student personnel services, as well as an associate’s degree in graphic design.
